1. Will my rescue’s contact information stay on the microchip?

YES! When signing up for AKC Reunite, you'll be asked if your rescue wants to be listed as the primary or alternate contact. As an alternate, your rescue will still be notified any time a lost pet is found, but if your rescue chooses to be locked in as the primary contact, the pet can never be transferred out of your Organization’s name. During a recovery incident, everyone on the microchip record is contacted using phone call, text, and email.

2. Can my rescue register microchips brands other than AKC Reunite?

YES you can! When setting up your AKC Reunite account, you can also opt into enrolling other brands of microchips for a nominal lifetime enrollment fee. You will be asked roughly how many and what frequency you expect to enroll other brands of microchips.

3. Can my rescue use AKC Reunite and another microchip registration service at the same time?

If your rescue has microchips left over and you would like to register with another registration service for these chips, you can! You will need to set this up with both your AKC Reunite and your other microchip registration service rep so that the microchip information is sent to the correct registry. Learn more about having more than one microchip registration active at the same time here.

4. How does my rescue know if an AKC Reunite microchip is registered?

AKC Reunite will provide you with a Rescue Hub (dashboard) where you can log in and see which pets have been enrolled with what microchip and to whom. An added benefit of purchasing your microchips through AKC Reunite is having the ability to see which remaining microchips you have are still unenrolled.

5. How long does it take for microchips to arrive?

Microchips ordered before noon EST are shipped out the same day by USPS ground shipping. Orders placed after this cutoff time will be shipped out the following day.

6. What happens if a pet is returned to my rescue?

If you would like to register the returned pet into your rescue's name for the time they are back in your care, you will need to contact your AKC Reunite representative. Otherwise, no action regarding the microchip needs to be done! The pet's microchip will be re-registered at the next adoption event to their new human. AKC Reunite microchips come with lifetime enrollment so when you re-intake and re-adopt a pet, you will not be charged to register the microchip again.

7. Does AKC Reunite contact my adopters?

When the pet is successfully registered, adopters will receive one email letting them know their new pet's microchip has been registered AND where they can log in to update their information. AKC Reunite does not reach out to your adopters in an attempt to solicit them. (see an example email below)
