Register microchips with SmartTag
The first thing you'll want to do to start auto-registering your microchips through SmartTag is to set up your SmartTag Implant Group Account.

Once you create your account, be sure to save your login information for SmartTag as you'll need it to verify your registrations. You'll also be emailed your SmartTag API Key for turning on the registration through Pawlytics.
1. How do I turn on SmartTag auto-registrations?
First you'll need to complete this form and wait for SmartTag to email your API Key. Then navigate to the Pet Settings tab in your Organization Settings where you will find the toggle switch to turn on PetLink
Enter your SmartTag API Key and the date you want to start registering your microchips:
Click Confirm to save your information and you're good to go!
2. Can we register any brand of microchip through SmartTag?
Yes! Non-SmartTag microchips can be registered for a one-time cost of $7.50. To enable this feature from your SmartTag Implant Group Dashboard, navigate to the settings tab and select “Yes” from the dropdown:
A card will be required to be on file and will be charged on a monthly basis for any third-party registrations that occurred the month before.
3. What type of microchips can I purchase through SmartTag?
SmartTag offers a wide range of the latest and greatest microchip technologies on the market including standard and mini microchips. They also have more environmentally friendly, less-waste standard and mini microchips and new mini temperature reading microchips too! Click here to see the full list of offerings.
4. How much do they cost?
Regular pricing starts at $7 per microchip and varies from there depending on the type of microchip/enrollment purchased.
5. What are my enrollment choices?
Microchips can be purchased with or without Lifetime Registration. For microchips without lifetime registration, the cost of registration is passed to the customer based on what protection plan they choose.
Note: You must purchase microchips with lifetime registration to take advantage of *automatically* registering the microchip to your adopter through Pawlytics.

7. Can my rescue's contact information stay locked on the microchip?
Yes! When you enroll your microchip through Pawlytics, you'll be attached to each pet as the permanent Implant Group. This feature allows you to keep up with animals your group has microchipped, even after they’ve left your care.
8. What is the minimal required data needed for the registration to work?
The following pet and people information must be filled out BEFORE you mark the adoption outcome:

9. What happens if there is missing data on the person or pet?
The registration will fail if required pet data is missing. If owner data is missing, the pet will be registered and the shelter will remain as the primary contact until an owner is assigned.
10. Do I have to mark the adoption again to retry the registration?
Nope! We have a sync that runs daily to retry any pets that have been adopted but not yet registered into SmartTag. Once you've corrected the missing information, your part is done! The registration will run again at Midnight CST.
11. Does SmartTag contact my adopters post adoption?
Just a welcome email when the chip gets enrolled sent to the email address provided at adoption.
